For this assignment, I would like you to select three passages from the play that are related by any standard of your choice and write a response in the form of a thesis essay that deeply discusses the relationship between these lines.  You could select three passages that convey a specific theme, share a common rhetorical or literary device, or utilize reoccurring diction.

If you select passages that are thematically related, then your thesis should analyze how that specific theme is presented and how it enriches the overall effect of the play.

oThere are many themes to choose from: ambition, fatalism and free will, femininity and masculinity, guilt, treachery, etc.

If you decide to track Shakespeare’s use of a specific literary device, then your thesis should analyze the effect of this device.

oConsider what Shakespeare wanted to emphasize when using this device.

If you decide to focus on diction, then your thesis should discuss the how the repetition of this word(s) affects the meaning of the play.

oConsider how this word or phrase resonates within the play.

oConsider what character, ideas, or transformations are illuminated.

oConsider how the meaning of this word or phrase changes over time.
